Residential - Oak Park

The Challenge:
The existing house was the kind of one-bedroom bungalow typical of the post-war era and much in need of renovation by the year 2002. More than that, it had a confining, and dark feel to it, and was no longer adequate for the blended family that would be living there in the future.

The Solution:
The design was tailored to the needs and desires of the client, within the tight constraints of the sloped property and zoning restrictions. FORT is committed to providing full services, and remained actively involved in the project until it was completed in order to ensure continuity, coordination and quality control.

“When Anne asked what we envisioned for our renovation, we asked for Cape Cod architecture while emphasizing the trees on our lot. She succeeded wonderfully. Our home is a beautiful, extraordinarily bright “treehouse” perched high above the street - as close as we could possibly get to our dreamhouse in Cape Cod within the big city.”

The Challenge:
Habitat for Humanity is an outstanding organization that provides affordable housing for the working poor. Over the years, FORT has joined forces with Habitat to successfully plan and execute a number of projects. Each one demanded creative solutions to the problem of delivering affordable housing, but in this case, the time constraints were even more daunting. There were only two weeks to “blitz” build the two houses from the ground floor up and have them ready for occupancy.

The Solution:
FORT was the project architect and a member of the Build Committee that made this project a success. The time challenge of the “blitz” build was met thanks to exhaustive pre-planning, precise on-site coordination and hands-on involvement. The hard work, fastidiousness and lateral thinking required for the job exemplify FORT’s approach to all projects.
